The lecture gives an introduction to general chemistry with topics such as: the chemical bond; gases, fluids and solids; thermodynamics, kinetics, the law of mass action, acids and bases, redox-reactions and electrochemistry. The lecture then continues with the characeristics and reactivity of the main functional groups of organic compounds and closes with the most important classes of natural products.

This lecture gives in-depth information about the main reaction-types of organic chemistry, stereochemistry and natural products (nucleic acids, proteins, carbohydrates, fatty acids, terpenoids...) and covers the most important aspects of enzyme reaction mechanisms.
